Caitlin Brune, MPH

Chief Executive Officer

A Baltimore native and graduate of Georgetown University, Caitlin also holds a Master of Public Health degree from UC Berkeley with a focus on international maternal and child health. In preparation for her MPH course of study, she worked with community-based nonprofits in Nepal, Bhutan, the Philippines, Kenya, Ghana, Paraguay and Mexico in a 18-month solo backpacking tour.

Upon taking her degree, she spent five years at the Firelight Foundation, based in Santa Cruz and grant making to community-based organizations in East and Southern Africa addressing the needs of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Subsequently, she served as a Development Officer/Grant Writer for the Global Fund for Women before becoming a Program Officer at a private foundation based in Sausalito, the May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust. There she supervised $2 million in annual grantmaking to organizations serving low-income adults, youth, children, and military veterans with programs to enhance their access to educational and economic livelihood opportunities and appropriate health care.

She recently completed a four-month intensive training in ecological agriculture and works with nonprofits striving to transform our food systems to a more economically and socially just, humane, ecologically sound footing.
