Community Health Trust’s Wine & Roses is Moving Indoors

Watsonville, California – Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley is looking forward to holding its annual celebration and fundraising event, Wine & Roses, on Saturday, November 6 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.

The event was originally planned to be held outdoors but with an increased chance of inclement weather, low viral transmission, great progress in vaccination rates in Santa Cruz County, and support from our participating wineries and food vendors — we are moving Wine & Roses inside to the Crosetti Building at the fairgrounds.

Community Health Trust Celebrates Healthcare Leaders at the Building a Culture of Health: Annual Benefit and Award Soiree

Watsonville, California – Since 1999, the Community Health Trust has been honoring Phil Rather’s legacy of service to the community through the Phil Rather Award for Leadership in Healthcare.

This year, the awards were reformatted into a formal soiree setting, taking place Saturday, September 18 at the Seascape Golf Club. Attendees enjoyed a sit-down dinner and were invited to participate in a meaningful tribute to the lasting impact of Mr. Rather’s work and those that have followed in his footsteps. Numerous community nominations were received. Awards were granted to those who made the most outstanding contributions to health in Pájaro Valley.

Community Health Trust Announces Return of the Annual Health Fair: Promoting wellness and equity

Watsonville, California – The Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley (CHT) is proud to announce the return of its annual community Health Fair on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Watsonville City Plaza from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

CHT encourages the community to take advantage of this event. Admission is free to the public with something for the whole family. “We are excited to bring back this event,” said DeAndre’ James, Executive Director for CHT. “Our hope is to create awareness of the health resources in the Pajaro Valley, increase equitable access to health services, and to empower individuals to take care of their wellbeing, which is especially important as we continue to navigate the pandemic.”

Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley Awards Azteca's Youth Soccer Academy with Rally in the Pajaro Valley Softball Tournament Proceeds

Watsonville, California – Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley (CHT) in partnership with the City of Watsonville, held the first-ever Rally in the Pajaro Valley, a fundraising softball tournament on Saturday, August 21 – Sunday, August 22 at Watsonville High School.

The softball tournament was well received, with participating teams playing competitively throughout the weekend to the delight of their fans. As a result of the outpouring of support for the event, CHT is pleased to announce funds raised amounted to a $1,000 donation to the charity of choice of the participating teams, Azteca’s Youth Soccer Academy. “Azteca’s is changing the lives of at-risk youth, providing them a healthy, positive outlet. CHT proudly supports this organization,” said DeAndre’ James, Executive Director for CHT. “We are pleased with the outcome of our event and have received positive feedback from attendees. I look forward to next year’s Rally in the Pajaro Valley Tournament.”

Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley Presents Rally in the Pajaro Valley: A Softball Tournament to raise funds & nonprofit awareness

Watsonville, California – In partnership with the City of Watsonville, Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley (CHT) is proud to announce the first-ever Rally in the Pajaro Valley, a softball tournament fundraiser to be held on Saturday, August 21 – Sunday, August 22 at Watsonville High School.

CHT invites the community to this fun filled two-day event. Admission is free to the public and attendees will be able to watch participating teams play ball and eat delicious food from local favorites, Miches and Ceviches and Tacos La Chilanga. “We are excited to host this event and create a safe space for the community to be in person, have fun, and raise money for a much deserving local non-profit,” said DeAndre’ James, Executive Director for CHT. “We are pleased to announce that Aztecas Youth Soccer Academy is the selected benefitting nonprofit to receive the net proceeds from the event.”

Community Health Trust Announces 2021 Grants & Scholarships

Watsonville, California – The Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley (CHT) recently announced the recipients of $375,000 in grants to organizations whose work aligns with CHT’s strategic program areas, promoting wellness and equity in the Pajaro Valley. Thirteen organizations received grants of $15,000 for single-year projects and three organizations were awarded $60,000 for three-year projects.

Community Health Trust Awards $50,000 in Scholarships for Healthcare Professions

Watsonville, California – Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley Board of Directors and Staff are pleased to award $46,200 in scholarship funds to 22 students pursuing careers in Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Radiology Technology, and Medical Assisting at Cabrillo College.

These funds, generated by an endowment established by the Eiskamp family in 2019, honor the legacy of Dr. Ehler H. Eiskamp, a physician who practiced medicine in Watsonville for nearly 60 years and believed strongly in supporting the pursuits of local aspiring healthcare professionals.

Watsonville, California – The Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley is pleased to announce the grand opening of El Mercado, a weekly farmers’ market aiming to decrease food insecurity and improve access to health-promoting resources for Pajaro Valley residents.

Despite being located in the heart of a thriving agricultural region, segments of the Pajaro Valley are considered food deserts, where people have limited access to sources of healthy and affordable food. “We live in a very abundant area, surrounded by fresh, healthy produce, but the truth is, many residents and families do not have easy access to these,” said DeAndre’ James, Executive Director for CHT. “In addition to offering healthy produce and prepared food, El Mercado will also work in collaboration with local partners to include resources that will support and reinforce healthy habits and a healthy lifestyle.”

Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley Provides Major Donation to PVUSD’s Culinary Kitchen and Teaching Garden Grant Project at Starlight Elementary

Watsonville, CA – The word is out! A Culinary Kitchen and Teaching Garden (CKTG) garden will open in 2022 at Starlight Elementary School, one of only five schools nationwide – and the only school west of the Rockies- thanks to major funding from the Emeril Lagasse Foundation (chef, ELF), PVUSD developer fees, the Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley (CHT), community donors, foundations and grants. Starlight’s Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to 5th grade students will explore science, math, health, nutrition, and other subjects through hands-on projects that also teach teamwork, critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving; skills to support their success in school, careers, and in life. CHT’s $150,000 donation anchors the CKTG project as a promise to positively impact the wellbeing of PVUSD students, families, and the community for years to come.

Watsonville, CA – ¡Se corrió la voz! Una cocina culinaria y jardín de enseñanza (CKTG por sus siglas en inglés) se abrirá en 2022 en la primaria Starlight, una de solo cinco escuelas en todo el país, y la única escuela al oeste de las Montañas Rocosas, gracias a una importante financiación de la Fundación Emeril Lagasse (chef, ELF por sus siglas en ingles), tarifas de desarrollador de PVUSD, Community Health Trust del Valle de Pajaro (CHT), donantes comunitarios, fundaciones y becas. Watsonville, California – The Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley is pleased to announce the release of our 2021-2022 Request for Grant Proposals, open to nonprofit organizations working toward a more equitable Pajaro Valley where health, wellness, and full quality of life are accessible to all.

Through our grantmaking, the Community Health Trusts aims to build health equity and promote wellness for all community members. These goals reflect our 2020-2023 STRATEGIC PLAN, which focuses on driving significant impact in a changing health environment. In the 2021-22 grant cycle, we will prioritize impact as we seek to distribute $15,000 grants to organizations whose work aligns with our goals.

Community Health Trust distributes Federal Relief Funds to support COVID-19 messaging efforts in Santa Cruz County

Watsonville, California – On behalf of the County of Santa Cruz, the Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley recently awarded $350,000 in Federal Coronavirus Relief Funds to area organizations, coalitions, and individuals to support COVID-19 messaging efforts in Santa Cruz County.

Distribution of the funding, which is part of the CARES Act stimulus bill, was allocated with an emphasis on efforts specifically focused on the South County region, the area south of Aptos, which has been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Community Health Trust to Distribute Local CARES Act Grants in Santa Cruz County

Watsonville, CA, September 24, 2020 – Federal Coronavirus Relieve Funds (CRF) are now available to support COVID-19 messaging efforts in Santa Cruz County, with an emphasis on efforts focused on the South County region. The Community Health Trust (CHT) is pleased to have been selected as the local distributor of these funds.

The application to apply will be released Monday, September 28 at noon, with submissions open through October 9, 2020. Funds may be used as a reimbursement for past messaging efforts starting July 1, 2020 or new and continuing efforts up to December 15, 2020.

With each purchase of an auction item and/or Wine & Roses Experience, funds go to support CHT programs and services of fostering health and equity for all in Pajaro Valley.
